And One More Thing #10: Spend

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

The past few years, I have learnt so much about money. Alhamdulillah! What was more shocking was my money mindset. That is a story for another day.⁣

⁣Money means different things for different people. So fill in the blank with the first thing that comes to your mind.⁣

Money is ____________⁣

Now leave a ❤ if your first thought was "the root of all evil" 🙃⁣

Money is a means to do good. I mean we need money. Whether it is to buy fancy clothes or food or the latest iPhone. And to build mosques and community centres. Plus all those cute stationery and books. And what might be expensive to someone isn’t to someone else. And that is okay.⁣

With money, we can spend for the sake of Allah. You know, loan a godly loan. Nothing is ever lost with Allah ﷻ ⁣

Some people have a lot of money and so they can give a lot. Some have so little and so they give just that and that is understandable and appreciated because our Lord is Ash-Shakur (the Most Appreciative)⁣ and Al-Alim (the All-Knowing)

⁣There are a group of people who have just enough, and maybe they have even had their finances cut off due to the economic crises and are afraid to give because they fear poverty but want to give because they hope for His mercy and bounties. And somewhere within that hope and fear, they give anyway and solely for the sake of Allah ﷻ...⁣

Now those ones, they are truly special. ⁣

وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةًۭ صَغِيرَةًۭ وَلَا كَبِيرَةًۭ وَلَا يَقْطَعُونَ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمْ لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

And whenever they make a donation, small or large, or cross a valley ˹in Allah’s cause˺—it is written to their credit, so that Allah may grant them the best reward for what they used to do. [9:121]

May Allah accept all of it from all of us. Amin! ⁣
