In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Is marriage a yardstick to measure piety?
Our society has made it a yardstick to measure piety and on a scale that is unfair especially to the divorced woman.
Some people have found their marriages easy. Others have found theirs difficult. We forget though that in both the ease and the difficulty are tests.
Some marriages have great beginnings and others have great ends but no matter the beginning or the end, work on your relationship with Allah ﷻ.
The wife of Fir'awn with such intelligence asked for the best of the Hereafter and she could have it all in this world. Her husband was a tyrant.
The wife of Lut (AS) was of the wrong doers despite being married to a Prophet.
And the single chaste mother, Maryam (AS) was honoured so much and even mentioned by name in the book of the Most Merciful.
With these women, their piety or lack of it was a non-issue as regards their marital status.
The question though is are you doing the best you can irrespective of your marital status?
May Allah bless us all with spouses who will be the coolness of our eyes and protect us like garments.
