Chaotic Calm
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
So I took time of social media.
And I finally did something I have been putting off for months. I decluttered my kitchen. The goal is to declutter the house but I started with the kitchen anyway and it was exhilarating and not as bad as I thought.
There are so many things we keep for so many different reasons. The primary one is ‘just incase.’ So I am just going to keep this toaster that the fuse is broken, just incase it magically decides to work someday in the next 4 years even if I do not take it for repair.
You know how when you are packing a diaper bag and you put all the essentials like wipes, water, wipes, food, wipes, diaper, wipes and then you put the just incases - four spoons because toddler doesn't always decide which spoon they will need, and 2 plates because somedays they need another plate, 4 toys they haven't played with in a few months but just incase in this 2 hours they need it, then 2 of their now favourite toys, a sieve from the kitchen like they don't have enough toys and they are just drawn to sieves and serving spoons, a juice box and 4 extra straws because they chew the straw and then throw a tantrum when the straw doesn't ‘work’, a nail cutter because maybe your child will sleep off and you can finally cut those nails, books because just maybe they will want to read. And then bag is packed and you look like you are moving between states and not going to visit your sister who lives 30 minutes from you.
I mean my kitchen store is what I would now be calling a pantry cos it looks so fancy Ma sha’a Allah. Even my toddlers walked in and just stared at all of that new order. I feel liberated to be honest. Like my brain has some space.
Everyone now loves the pantry. I love the space now. It isn’t so overwhelming anymore.
The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment.

So your turn, are you easily attached to stuff? Have you ever decluttered your space? What do you find hard to let go of?
