In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,
[It will be said to them], "And you have certainly come to Us alone as We created you the first time, and you have left whatever We bestowed upon you behind you. And We do not see with you your 'intercessors' which you claimed that they were among you associates [of Allah]. It has [all] been severed between you, and lost from you is what you used to claim.[Qur’an 6:94]
When I have to take a trip, I always like to pack the essentials - only what I need, no extras. Then when a situation arises and I need an extra, I wish I gave myself some allowance. That was a long time ago.
Now, I am usually low-key jealous of those people who you see walking to the check-in counter with just a bag. Then when they are asked, “do you have anything to check-in?” They say “no.” The audacity!
And then there is me, with two strollers, two toddler backpacks that the owners have refused to hold, a cardigan around my waist and two toddler hoodies on my head, looking confused and praying the check-in luggage are not all over the baggage allowance. Let us not talk about the flask in one hand luggage and the pack of snacks and activities crushing my back, and one book or two that I still somehow hope I can read on the plane and then my kindle because I might not “feel” like reading both books. Alhamdulillah! I digress…
"You have come to Us all alone, just as We had first created you, and you have left behind you what We had bestowed on you, and We do not see your intercessors with you - those whom you claimed to be (Our) partners in (managing) your matters. In fact, all ties between you are now severed, and all that you presumed has totally failed you. [Qur’an 6:94]
We came alone to this world and we would leave alone. And everything we are working so hard for more of - money, cars, books, clothes, houses, certificates, business, we would leave here. We cannot take it with us from here. No matter how much they mean to you. It is not one of those, “you are stranded on the desert and can only have 3 items moments.” YOU ARE COMPLETELY BY YOURSELF.
We have to be careful with the choices we make everyday - those tasks or things we are doing that keeps us saying, "let me finish doing this before I pray" or those people whose opinions and words matter, more to us than that of Allah ﷻ
And considering I came across something today that left me in deep thought…
We should not have a 'just enough' mindset with the work we put in for the Akhirah. As this 'work' is the only thing we can carry for the most important trip of our lives.
What are we putting forth today for our Akhirah?
I need to think often, 'How is my Jannah-CV looking?'
May Allah ﷻ admit us into Jannah without account. Now, say Amin!
So I prepared a small guidebook to help anyone who wants to make tadabbur one small part of their day. It has one ayah from each juz, and personal reflection questions. Allow the Qur'an transform you.
