In the name of Allah ﷻ the entirely merciful, the especially merciful
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing. [Qur’an 7:180]
As we seek connection with Allah ﷻ , we can use His most beautiful names. There are about ninety-nine of such attributes that are known. What business do we have looking for more?
The two we repeat very often are Ar-Rahman and ar-Rahīm...So Merciful and So full of Mercy...
Call out to Allah ﷻ
In times of ease and hardship.
In terms of difficulty and need.
Praise Him and glorify Him using His Names.
In calling out to Allah ﷻ, you get a solution for whatever you seek, solace in your heart plus you get the reward of Ibadah.
I remember one time I was having a conversation with an 8-year-old and I said “You know Allah ﷻ has 99 names?" She said, that is too many names. I said, “Yes, you would think so normally, but it is not tooo many for Allah ﷻ. Whatever you can think of wanting to say about Allah, there is a name He has taught us to call Him. And so she tested me. She just said, “The one that forgives” and I said ‘Al-Gafur’ and then she said, ‘the one that gives us things’ and I said “Ar-Razzaq” and she tried four more descriptions and I am still so grateful to Allah ﷻ that I could find a match for them. At this point, I started to pray, she gets tired, because you know these curious minds. But Allah ﷻ is Al-Sami’ and Al-Mujīb and she did. Allahu Akbar!
For a long time, your goal has been to memorize the names but have you stopped to internalize them?
Internalizing the names of Allah ﷻ provides such a mindset shift. It takes your relationship with Him from "Lite to Pro-Max." It is time to shift your focus from your weaknesses to His strengths. And He is Al-Qawiyy, Al- Azīz.
Utilize His Names to make du’a.
Match your weaknesses to His Strength.
What has he found who has lost God? And what has he lost who has found God?—Ibn ‘Ata’ Allah Al-Iskandari
Bismillah !
I prepared a small guidebook for anyone who wants to make tadabbur one small part of their day. It has one ayah from each juz, some notes from various tafasir (all referenced), and personal reflection questions. Allow the Qur'an transform you.
