In the name of Allah, the entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
{ قَالَ هَلۡ ءَامَنُكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ إِلَّا كَمَاۤ أَمِنتُكُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَخِیهِ مِن قَبۡلُ فَٱللَّهُ خَیۡرٌ حَـٰفِظࣰاۖ وَهُوَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ }
[Surah Yūsuf: 64]
He said, “Shall I trust you about him as I trusted you earlier about his brother? Well, Allah is the best guardian, and He is the Most-Merciful of all the merciful.”
The first time I learned what Fi Amanillah means,"In the trust of Allah"something settled inside me.
Loss is a fear we all carry. The fear of leaving, the fear of being left behind, the fear of loss. And that comes with just loving.
Who doesn't want to love or be loved?
Have you ever had to walk away while your heart stayed behind?
Maybe you had to travel and leave your baby in someone's care?
Or the first day of your little not-so-little one starting preschool or even day care. [It is harder to put the back mum together than the child from my experience…but I digress]
Or just watch someone you love step into the a new place like university or boarding school or even just move to a new country, knowing you could not follow?
Ya‘qub عليه السلام knew this fear. He had already lost Yusuf. And now, they were asking for Binyamin. He had every reason to hesitate, to hold on tighter, to need to make a point. But instead, he turned to the only Guardian who never fails.
The One who protects in ways we do not see.
The One whose care does not leave us.
The One whose mercy does not waver.
al-Hafidh!
The One who watches over what we cannot. The One who keeps safe what and who we love. The One who reminds us that even when something or someone leaves our hands, it never leaves His. Nothing is ever unprotected, lost, unseen. Nothing!
His protection is not distant or detached, it is wrapped in infinite love and compassion.
Ya Rabb, I entrust my loved ones into your care, shower them with Your mercy, and let me trust in the wisdom of Your decree. Ya Hafidh, Ya Raheem, please when my heart hesitates, remind me that nothing is ever truly lost when it is with You.
Fi Amanillah!
What a beautiful way to say good bye.
