Is it yours?

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

So I have been decluttering the past few months and I have been talking so much about it but stay with me. I was so overwhelmed by the emotions that came up with my clothes I decided to do something different. I put it all out and decided the amount of space I had to fill with clothes (Thank you Marie Kondo) and I noticed I instantly started to pick what I really needed and then it was not so overwhelming anymore. It didn’t matter that my grandmother’s sister gave me the dress or it was something that I wanted to keep even though I never wore it again.

A few days after, I was going to wear a skirt and then I decided that one top I had put away in the give pile was the perfect fit for that skirt and so I again decided I would take it out of the pile before I gave out the clothes.

I was finally giving out the clothes in that pile and I remembered to removed the top. Somehow it got added to the laundry before it made it to my wardrobe. This morning, at a few minutes past 7, my nanny brought it to me with an apology, somehow, she was ironing it and it got burnt- right in the middle of it.

SubhanAllah!

Astagfirullah!

And it hit me…

You will never achieve righteousness until you donate some of what you cherish. And whatever you give is certainly well known to Allah. [Quran 3:92]

And also…

And hasten towards forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise as vast as the heavens and the earth, prepared for those mindful ˹of Allah˺. ˹They are˺ those who donate in prosperity and adversity, control their anger, and pardon others. And Allah loves the good-doers. [Quran 3:133-134]

With Allah ﷻ, it is not about the big things.

And also…

Ibn Abbas reported: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he said to me, “Young man, I will teach you some words. Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. If you ask, ask from Allah. If you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the nations gathered together to benefit you, they could not benefit you unless Allah has decreed it for you. And if the nations gathered together to harm you, they could not harm you unless Allah has decreed it for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

It was my top (or so I thought) and I couldn’t wear it one more time because it was not mine anymore.

What do we really own?
