In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
There is a moment in the stillness of the night, when the world is asleep and the only sound is your own breath, heavy with longing. A moment when you feel the weight of your needs pressing against your chest, and you wonder, if you are asking “the right way.” Are your words eloquent enough? Is your heart sincere enough? Are you even worthy enough to ask? How can I ask? How can I bring my broken self to the doorstep of al-Mujeeb?
But here is the truth..
You don’t have to be whole to ask.
Also, Allah doesn’t need your eloquence.
Your du’a is not a presentation. You are not crafting a speech to impress Him. He does not require eloquence from you.
Have you seen the Qur’an?
Those are His words.
When you stand before Allah ﷻ, pouring your soul into a du’a, it isn’t about your vocabulary or your ability to string together “deep” du'as. It is the recognition that no one—absolutely no one—can provide for you, forgive you, or guide you except Him.
Submit to Him and just Ask.
Ask with broken words, ask through your tears, or ask with nothing but your heart. Allah ﷻ already knows what you are struggling to articulate. He is closer to you than your jugular vein, and He hears even the whispers of your soul.
He knows!
But Ask, because Allah loves to be asked.
Your du’a is not just about what you want. It is about building your relationship with Him. It is about recognizing His Lordship and your servitude. It is about surrendering your plans and trusting His.
So just Ask!
Our asking Allah is not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
Raise your hands, even if they tremble.
Whisper your need, even if your voice cracks.
Let the tears fall, amidst the guilt and the shame
And just ask.
Ask!
...because He is al-Rahman, the Most Merciful
...because He is al-Wahhab, the Giver of Gifts.
...because He is al-Ghaniyy, free of all need, while we are the ones in need.
...because He is al-Kareem, the Most Generous, whose treasures never diminish, no matter how much we ask
...because He has invited you, over and over, to call upon Him.
It is not about your worthiness, it is about His Mercy. It is not about the size of your requests, it is about the limitlessness of His Power.
When you ask Him, you are not just asking for what you want, You are affirming your belief that He is capable of granting it.
Nothing is unimaginable for Him.
Nothing is too small or too great.
He created the heavens and the earth with a single word. Now, what is your du’a compared to that?
…
You are not asking because of who you are. You are asking because of who Allah ﷻ is.
And who is Allah?
He is the One who parted the sea with a command.
He made the fire cold and safe for a young boy.
The One who brings life to barren lands.
The One who forgives sins and loves to forgive.
The One who says “Be, and it is.”
Sometimes we hesitate because we think our du’a is too small, too trivial, or, conversely, too big, too impossible. But Allah ﷻ does not measure your du’a the way we measure things. To Him, the “small” and the “impossible” are all the same. For Him time, space, and impossibilities do not exist. He is the One who answers the call of the distressed when they call upon Him.
So, call upon Him!
Ask for the healing that feels out of reach. Ask for the peace your heart aches for. Ask for the guidance you cannot find. Ask for the provsion that is seemingly hard to find. Ask for forgiveness, even if you have stumbled especially if you have stumbled a thousand times over,
Ask!
And when you ask, trust that Allah ﷻ hears you and that He will respond in the way that is best for you.
There are times when your du’a feels unanswered. But again, our Lord is Allah. His “silence” or “delay” is not rejection but wisdom. Every unanswered request is replaced with something better—perhaps in this world, perhaps in the next. Focus on better. Better than what you sought? SubhānAllah.
Do you see it?
The gift that is making du'a.
It pulls you closer to Him, strengthens your reliance on Him, and reminds you of your utter dependence on His Mercy.
Now, Ask Him
Pause.
Let your heart speak to Him. Don’t wait for the “right” moment. Take this moment. Whisper your gratitude, your need and your pain.
Ask because He is Allah. Ask because nothing is unimaginable for Him. Ask because He loves you enough to listen, even when your words fail you.
And then leave your du’a with Him, knowing that His plan for you is better than anything you could imagine for yourself.
Ask Him not because of who you are, but because of who He is.
Ask and let your heart trust that He will give you everything you need—at the perfect time, in the perfect way.
So ask.
And then, let Him!
And please keep this miskeen servant in your du'a as you all are in mine.
With love and ʾadʿiyah(du’as),
Umm B
Beautiful reminder! I love how you said ask Allah because of who He is not who we are. Part of humility is recognizing His power and greatness.
May Allah give you the best of this life and the next and give you the patience to beautifully wait for all the goodness coming your way🩷
