Do you struggle to recite Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays?
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Do you struggle with reciting surah Al-Kahf on Fridays?
I was only aware of the hadith while in university, and I had a very close friend who would read it without fail and very quickly too. I wouldn't even try because I thought, "That can never be me."
Once, I was comfortable enough to ask how she got here. She said she had been doing it every friday for such a long time, it was like she had memorized it. Again, I thought "that can never be me."
I thought it was too many pages, and if the only way to reach that point was to get through them for a number of years, then throw in my recitation that sounded so croaky that it became shy after the first few ayahs...it was looking mostly impossible. So again, I thought "that can never be me."
We all want a relationship with the Qur'an. We all want to flow and grow with it and live with it and be inspired by it and speak of it and with it and about it in a way that allows us to draw closer to Allah ï·»
Tbh, I haven't thought about that conversation with her much, and this is not to say that I am even there - 🙃 to be honest, "there" doesn't exist.
There are a few things that have helped me move from where I was. For example, trying to get familiar with the words and learning some grammar rules and listening to Tafseer and overall exposure to it. Even finding a Qari’ [reciter] who we listen to over and over again. Do you have have a favourite Qari’
So, just in case you are at the point of "that can never be me," this is me cheering you on and telling you that "it can be you."
More importantly than wishing it magically gets easier, take up the challenge and start to show up with big or little steps towards making it more familiar to you.
You dont have to hold on to all that guilt that comes with seeing all the Surah Al-Kahf reminders on Fridays.
